WELCOME TO SOMERSET
Just north of Friendship Heights, Somerset was created from the southwestern corner of the Friendship Land Grant in the late 19th century by five government scientists. Five streets named after the English counties of Essex, Dorset, Warwick, Surrey and Cumberland comprised the original community, now designated the Historic District where thirty-one homes are considered “primary resources.” Somerset stretches from Wisconsin Avenue on the east to Little Falls Parkway on the West. River Road and Western Avenue define its southern edge. For a community guide, consult Chevy Chase expert and resident of nearby Rollingwood, Melinda Estridge.
